Body Washes Shouldn’t Simply Be Applied To Your Skin
If its your first ever time picking up a body wash, you will need to also get a complimentary sponge, loofah, etc. to go with it.
Don’t worry loofahs aren’t just for wives, girlfriends, or moms – plenty of men use these incredibly useful things.
However, do you know which one should be best for you?
If you have sensitive skin or you are simply not looking for a terribly deep exfoliation, then one of the best options out there is going to be a sponge.
Of course you don’t want to get a Scotch sponge that might be resting under your skin that has a brillo backing. Instead, we highly recommend checking out a soft sponge that will do an effective job at treating your skin gently.
Or perhaps you can pick up a sponge that clearly says what part is for your body and what part for your back side.
On the other hand if you are looking for a deeper exfoliation, then a loofah is actually going to be a great item to pick up. Loofahs are typically harvested from natural sponges and will be able to adequately get all the dead skin cells off any part of your body with just a gentle scrub.
Lastly, and of course the one many men likely use, is just going to be your standard washcloth. Washcloths stand somewhere in the middle between loofahs and sponges when it comes to just how abrasive they are when applied to your skin.
Generally speaking, it comes down to personal preference on the level of exfoliation you are aiming for when taking a shower – personally we prefer a sponge.
Dry Or Scaly Skin? Here’s a Few Things To Keep in Mind
Now if your skin seems to be a bit on the dryer side there are a few things you can look out for when picking up a body wash.
Of course there is a multitude of reasons on why you may have dry skin. From allergic or environmental reasons to simply atopic dermatitis and diet, even the best body wash may not be able to solve the problem. This article does a great job at explaining all the different reasons your skin may be dry.
However, for the majority of men, a simple change of habits or soap can make a huge impact.
First and foremost, you want to shower once every couple of days. There are a few reasons for this, but most importantly it has to do with your sebaceous glands.
These glands that are found at the base of every hair follicle produce an oil called sebum oil. It’s the job of sebum oil to ensure that not only your hair stays well nourished and moisturized, but also your skin as well.
Of course one of the key ingredients you want to look for in your body wash, is one that contains oils or moisturizers that naturally complement the sebum oil. This will help give your skin an overall better appearance between showers.
Also when you hop out of the shower, you want to typically pat to dry instead of vigorous drying that some men prefer.
Of course aside from showering, moisturizers and getting an adequate amount of water daily can make a difference too.
