Lastly, this beard oil is made in the USA.

Aside from the skin-safe formula, the Ranger Ridge beard oil has a refreshing and bright citrus scent that’ll wake up your senses in the morning.  If you’re looking for a new brand to try out, then consider this beard oil by CastleBeard.

Vitamin E oil helps fight free radicals and premature signs of aging

A few short years ago, beard oil used to be a niche product relied upon by avid beardsmen. However, after the beard care market boom of 2015, luxury brands like Elemis, Le Labo, and even Tom Ford started making beard oils catering to men with plenty of discretionary income.

Tom Ford sticks to the basics and delivers a beard oil with a moisture-rich base of jojoba and almond oil.   But rather than relying on that all-to-common woodsy scent that you’ll find in other beard oils, Tom Ford blends tobacco and vanilla to deliver a warm and nearly intoxicating fragrance that’ll have you hooked.

To finish it off, Tom Ford added a touch of Vitamin E oil that your skin will love to help fight free radicals and premature signs of aging.

What customers are saying: Customers appreciate the deep, masculine scent of the beard oil, stating that it smells great. However, some find the price point to be expensive and might not purchase it regularly due to cost concerns.

Uncle Jimmy Beard Growth Oil

For Growth
Uncle Jimmy Beard Growth Oil 2oz

Whether you’re looking to promote beard growth or just want an effective conditioner, Uncle Jimmy Beard Products’ oil is definitely worth considering. With its combination of black seed oil, honey, and biotin, it’s one of the few products that has guys seeing positive results after just a few weeks of regular use.

Positive reviews

Supports natural beard growth

Some may prefer a more masculine scent

Not scientifically proven

If you are looking for a beard oil that’ll help promote beard growth, then consider this one by Uncle Jimmy Beard Products.  Relying on black seed oil, honey, and biotin, it’s one of the few beard care products where guys have seen positive facial hair growth after a few weeks of regular use.

The active ingredient that Uncle Jimmy relies on is Biotin, also known as vitamin B7.  Scientific research of biotin has been done for the treatment of pathological hair conditions – including brittle hair follicles and hair loss (source).  Ultimately, the results are still unproven, yet anecdotal evidence suggests that it may be effective in making your beard look thicker.

Aside from beard growth, this beard oil is an effective conditioner that will help to alleviate mild skin irritation and beard flakes.

What customers are saying: Most customers are delighted with this beard oil for its effectiveness in promoting beard growth and moisturizing properties. They also comment on the pleasant scent and the positive results after consistent use. However, some indicate that it may not work as well for filling in patchy areas.

Helpful Guides about Beard Oil

We have written several articles over the years about beard oils. However, if this is your first time using beard oil or need some help applying it effectively, be sure to check the following articles:

How to apply beard oil effectively: This guide covers how much and how often to apply beard oil.  We also share with you a few things to look out for when using beard oil, such as pimples, rashes, and more.

How to make beard oil at home:  Beard oil is expensive, especially if you have a long beard and are applying it frequently.  However, making beard oil is extremely cheap and easy.  This guide gives you 36 starter recipes to make your very own beard oil at home for a fraction of the price.  We also put together a video to demonstrate how easy it is to make.  Of course, if the DIY idea isn’t your thing, consider reading our reviews of affordable beard oils and a few adequate substitutes.

Lastly, if this is your first time buying beard oil and you intend to use it only for a month or two, you should read our guide on beard oil shelf life.  It’ll help prevent waste or possible infection to your skin.

To find the perfect beard oil, you should keep the following in mind:

1. Skin Type

Like good beard shampoo, beard oils are made from a blend of carrier and essential oils.  These oils have varying comedogenic ratings and will perform differently depending on your skin type.  If you have naturally oily skin, avoid using a beard oil that contains coconut oil, palm oil, or soybean oil, as they will clog your pores, causing pimples.  If you have dry skin, then a moisture-rich oil should be considered.  Jojoba oil, argan oil, and even olive oil are three versatile carrier oils that work well for most men. Carrier oils are considered the active ingredients within beard oils and will help to alleviate dry skin and nourish facial hair follicles.

Many beard oils contain essential oils to provide fragrance. Unfortunately, many essential oils have been found to cause allergic skin reactions when applied to the skin (source).  If you have sensitive skin, select a fragrant-free beard oil.

2. Fragrance

Most beard oils are scented through the use of essential oils.  You’ll find that beard oil comes in many scents, including woody, spicy, musk, citrus, and more.

If you wear an existing body spray or cologne, select a complimentary scented or fragrant-free beard oil.  This will prevent the fragrance of the two products from clashing when worn together.

3. Expectations

Many misconceptions and false claims run rampant in the beard care market. For example, beard oil will not accelerate the rate of growth for your beard. Instead, beard oil is a liquid skin conditioner that helps to moisturize your skin to alleviate beard itch.  Beard oil will also provide a healthy and light sheen and make your beard feel smoother.

4. Styling

If you have beard dandruff or dry skin, beard oil provides effective and targeted results.  However, since there are no styling agents in the formula, beard oil won’t give any hold to your perfectly combed beard, although beard oil can help with beard knots.

If you want some styling control, consider adding a touch of beard balm.  Beard balm is also effective at providing a little help in taming wispy flyaway hairs.

Lastly, a mustache wax can help tame your whiskers and provide a firm hold that’ll last all day.

5. Bottle Design, Size, & Color

When shopping for a new beard oil, take a close look at the bottle design and bottle size.

Bottle Design

Beard oils come in four different bottle designs: dropper, restrictor valve, pump, and pour out.  The dropper design is best as it allows for precise amounts and reduces waste.

Pump and restrictor valves are okay for performance but can become stuck or leave excess oil at the bottom of the bottle when fully used.

Lastly, the pour-out design cannot be reliably measured, resulting in excessive waste and frequent overapplication.  Overapplication may lead to a greasy or matted-looking beard.

Beard oils are typically available in a 1-ounce bottle or 2-ounce bottle. However, a larger bottle often provides a much better value while also being suitable for men with long beards.

Amber-colored beard oil bottles are better as they block out harmful UV light that can degrade the natural ingredients within the beard oil. An amber bottle can extend the life of the beard oil for about one full year before it expires.

6. Research

The beauty and cosmetic market is lightly regulated (source).  Therefore, many beard care products don’t adhere to any strict labeling standards and may not provide the full list of ingredients. Additionally, many cheap beard oils are made by generic brands and are out to make a quick profit by any means necessary.

Many of the beard oil brands presented in this guide have been in existence for several years, have a detailed ingredient list, are generally trusted among beardsmen, and are often made in the USA.
