Nivea Post Shave Balm Review

For some men, once they have finished shaving is when the real discomfort begins.

This can include common symptoms of dryness, burning, tightness of the skin, or an irritable itch.  The Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm, reviewed today, sets out to correct these common shaving problems.

In this short guide, we will take a look at this often recommended aftershave and help you decide whether it should be worked into your grooming routine.

Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm Ingredients

closeup of the ingredient list

Relying on a blend of soothing ingredients including chamomile, witch hazel, tapioca starch, and others – the Nivea Post Shave Balm was developed from the ground up to provide comfortable relief.

While not as clean as a purely natural or organic formula, many of these ingredients are rated as safe per the EWG (glycerin, isopropyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate /Vitamin E, etc.).

Should you have sensitive skin or allergic reactions when using new products, consult with your dermatologist and/or do a patch test prior to full application.

Consistency

When using Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm, you will instantly notice a thinner, lotion-like consistency.

This thinner viscosity allows it to be easily worked into the skin without much effort.

Application

Applying this aftershave balm is much like any other.

Once you pour out a nickel to quarter-sized amount, simply rub your hands together until they are both evenly coated:

Then simply massage onto your face thoroughly:

You will notice that once it has been applied, it goes on quite light (this was immediately after application):

After waiting another minute more, you will find that it will fully absorb into your skin.

Whether using this with a safety razor or cartridge razor, I found it to provide a nice cooling relief that I look forward to after every shave.

I can personally say that this aftershave balm does in fact help to reduce both tightness and mild skin irritation.

Premium Packaging

One area that the Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm receives high marks for is the quality packaging.  Housed in a cardboard box, the balm itself is stored in a nice, heavy-weighted glass jar.

Sized at 3.3oz., it narrowly meets TSA size restrictions (3.4oz) so you can easily travel with this full-sized product in your favorite carry-on luggage or Dopp kit.

The top of the jar is twist-on and snaps shut for secure closure.

Lastly, the balm we purchased was made in Mexico:

Who Should Consider Using This Balm?

While it is intended to be used to alleviate post-shave irritation, men with sensitive skin or even dry skin will find this product rather pleasant and helpful to work into their grooming routine.

Per the back of the box, the Nivea post shave balm was “Dermatologically tested on men with sensitive skin”:

Currently, this post shave balm has been tested for both face and head use (bald) without any issues.  Given the gentle formula, there should be no reason that it cannot also be applied to other areas of the body including the chest, underarms, groin, etc.
