Should you shave your head or body hair regularly, then this could impact blade lifespan significantly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Reduce the Cost Per Blade of a Cartridge Razor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you aren&#8217;t interested in trying new brands, then the best way to save money is to buy bulk.&nbsp; Larger blade refill packages will often result in a lower cost per blade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To quickly prove this assumption, we went ahead and looked at the price of refills for the Gillette Fusion5, Schick Hydro, and Gillette Mach3 &#8211; The most pronounced savings was for the Fusion5.&nbsp; A drop of $1 per blade when comparing the 4-pack to the 12-pack is a fairly big savings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to save is to change brands or go with an older generation razor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Often Should You Change Safety Razor Blades?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The safety razor, also known as the double edge safety razor or DE razor, was initially introduced in the early 1900s.\u00a0 It has taken a backseat to its electric and cartridge counterparts for several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the safety razor is making a comeback &#8211; You should change out your safety razor <strong>every five shaves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This assumes that you are making three passes with your safety razor blade during every shave session:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>With the grain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Across the grain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Against the grain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Not doing three passes each shave may extend the life of the blade a couple of extra days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Reduce the Cost Per Blade for a Safety Razor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Given that safety razor blades are already pretty cheap, there are very few ways to save additional money.\u00a0 The only recommendation is to test out other blades on the market and see if you can find a bargain blade that delivers the same results as a pricier blade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that just because a blade is <em>cheap<\/em> doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that it will perform poorly.&nbsp; The lower price point may be due to the labor costs of where the blade was manufactured (i.e., German blades tend to be pricier than India-made blades).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, a variety pack is great for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B00XLMZ0LI?tag=tom-aawp-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> testing out blades<\/a> from different countries at an affordable price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Long Does a Straight Razor Last?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Straight razors come in two varieties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shavettes and traditional straight edge razors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both share the same single blade form factor; however, shavettes offer an ejectable blade.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shavettes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Shavettes are often used in barbershops due to sanitary reasons (and perhaps local laws). The reason being is that you\u2019re responsible for sharpening the blade yourself with a strop. Depending on personal preference, some may sharpen before every shave while others may strop only once a week.
