Weight

The Rockwell Razors T2 is a fairly heavy razor, weighing in at 3.63 ounces (103 grams) and putting it just above average when compared to other safety razors. Rockwell does an excellent job of balancing the weight throughout the razor so it doesn’t feel lopsided or top-heavy – providing better control when shaving.

Additionally, the extra weight helps to provide enough stability and pressure to cut through just about any beard type.

For context, here’s how the Rockwell Razors T2 compares to other safety razors:

Length

The Rockwell Razors T2 has a slightly shorter razor at 3.74″ (9.5 cm). This makes it suitable for men with average to smaller hands. Those with larger hands may find it difficult to control, especially when shaving the neck or jawline.

Composition

The Rockwell Razors T2 is made of several metals, including chromed zinc, brass, and stainless steel. While not heirloom-quality metals, as you’d find in the 6S (more on this later), the T2 is still a solidly built razor that will last for years.

Country of Origin

The Rockwell Razors T2 is manufactured in Canada, with parts from China and the United States. The razor is engineered to be a top-quality product, and its manufacturing process reflects that commitment to quality.

Number of Pieces

The Rockwell Razors T2 is a one-piece butterfly safety razor. The blade is easy to change with a simple twist of the handle. The handle and cap are all attached.

One notable downside to this design is that it’s a bit more challenging to clean the razor as the base plate and cap are not removable. Additionally, should you drop the razor, it could be susceptible to damage.

Shave Performance

Where the T2 shines is the shave performance. Whether you want a mild or aggressive shave, the choice is yours. Rather than fumbling around with different base plates (like the 6C or 6S), the T2 allows you to adjust the aggressiveness of the shave with a simple turn of the handle. On its mildest setting, the T2 can still cleanly remove facial hair in a couple of passes – if this is your first time using a safety razor, we recommend starting here.

Of course, if you are an experienced wet shaver, you can crank up the aggressiveness of the shave and get a smooth, close shave in just one pass. The T2 is a great razor for those who want a bit more control over the aggressiveness of their shave.

If you are new to traditional wet shaving, we recommend skipping the canned shaving cream and opting for a traditional shaving cream or shaving soap instead. These boutique shaving products are made with natural ingredients and provide ample lubrication and cushion to the skin to lessen the chance of irritation.

Learning to Use the T2

As is the case when picking up any safety razor, it will take some time to get used to the T2. The first few shaves will likely be a bit rough, but with practice, you’ll be able to get a smooth, close shave in no time. Remember to set the razor to the proper cutting angle (about 30 degrees) and take your time. Short, overlapping strokes are the key to a smooth shave.

Don’t forget to shave with the grain on the first pass.

Facial Hair Types

Whether you have a thin and sparsely covered beard or thick and coarse facial hair, the T2 can handle it all – so there should be no problems here. In addition, we found that the T2 does a great job of slicing through thick stubble without clogging or pulling on the skin.

Razor Bumps

The T2 does a great job of minimizing the risk of razor bumps for those men with curly hair. Whether in a mild or aggressive setting, the hair is never cut beneath the skin, which is the primary cause of razor bumps. So if this is a problem with your current razor, or you often experience razor bumps on your neck, the T2 is a great option.

Razor Burn

Men with sensitive skin will enjoy the mildness of the T2. While it can provide a close shave, it’s not as aggressive as other safety razors, which means it’s less likely to cause razor burn or general skin irritation. Of course, it’s important to remember that razor burn isn’t always due to the razor itself.

The dullness of the blade, type of shaving cream, and shaving technique can all contribute to razor burn. So if you experience razor burn with the T2, try switching to a new blade or using different shaving cream.

Blade Compatibility

The T2 includes a 5-pack of Rockwell Razor blades. While these blades provide a good, close shave, the T2 is compatible with all double-edge safety razor blades, including Feather, Astra, and Derby blades. So have some fun testing different blades to find the one that works best for your facial hair and skin type.

Peer Reviews

Rockwell Razors has long been a favorite among wet shavers, and the T2 is no exception. Here’s what some wet shaving enthusiasts have to say about the T2:

  • What People Liked: This razor is beloved for its smooth shave and robust build quality. This is an adjustable butterfly razor, which is rare in the safety razor world and is a big plus for many wet shavers. Most found this to be their go-to razor for the foreseeable future.
  • What People Didn’t Like: Some users found it to be a bit too aggressive, often leading to nicks and cuts. Whereas others found that it doesn’t provide the close shave they desire.
  • Overall: The consensus was overwhelmingly positive. Averaging a rating of 4.81 out of 5, it’s among the highest-rated safety razors.

Important Note:

When reading any feedback about a razor, it’s important to remember that shaving technique, blade sharpness, and skin type can all play a role in the performance of the razor. So while some may find the T2 too aggressive, others may find it too mild. The best way to determine if the T2 is right for you is to try it out yourself.

Price

At $150, the price of the T2 is well above average. However, given that it is adjustable and can work for any shave preference and skill level, we still think it’s a good value.

To put the price into perspective, here’s how the T2 compares to other safety razors:

Colors

The Rockwell Razors T2 Safety Razor has four finishes: rose gold, brushed chrome, polished chrome, and gunmetal chrome. Each finish has a different look and feel, but all four options are sleek and stylish.

The rose gold option is excellent for anyone who wants a touch of luxury in their shaving routine, while the brushed and polished chrome options offer a more traditional look. Finally, the gunmetal chrome option is perfect for anyone who wants a bolder, more modern look.

Other Rockwell Models

Aside from the T2, Rockwell makes a few other safety razors. Here’s a quick overview of each:

  • Rockwell Razors 6C: The 6C is a 3-piece safety razor that features swappable base plates to change the level of aggressiveness. At $60, it’s an excellent option for those who want to try out different shave settings without breaking the bank.
  • Rockwell Razors 6S: Want a stainless steel and heirloom quality razor? Then consider the 6S. Made in the USA, this 3-piece safety razor is built to last. However, expect to pay top dollar for this razor – at $120, it’s one of the pricier safety razors on the market.
  • Rockwell Razors 2C: Featuring an identical form to the 6C, the 2C includes just one base plate (the most popular setting). This razor is geared toward beginners.

Here’s a chart comparing the Rockwell Razors T2 to the 6C, 6S, and 2C:

Other Brands

Aside from Rockwell, a few other brands make adjustable safety razors. Consider these options if you want to try out a different brand:

  • Merkur Futur: Elegant and classy looking, the Futur is extremely aggressive and is best suited for those with thick, coarse facial hair. However, it does have a larger head, making it a bit more challenging to maneuver around the face.
  • Merkur Progress: This is Merkur’s best offering of an adjustable safety razor. It can deliver reliably close shaves with a better range of aggressiveness settings.
  • Parker Variant: Don’t want to pay the high price of the T2? Then consider the Parker Variant. At $57, it’s among the cheapest adjustable safety razors on the market. However, this razor’s build quality appears to be a persistent problem.

Here’s a summary of Futur, Progress, and Variant compared to the T2:

Other Notes

There were a few other notes we wanted to share about the Rockwell Razors T2:

Warranty

A warranty does not cover the T2; only the 6S has a lifetime warranty. However, Rockwell Razors does offer a 60-day quality guarantee, so if you don’t like the razor, you can return it for a full refund.

Environmentally Conscious

We love that more and more men’s grooming companies are taking a stand to be more environmentally conscious. Rockwell Razors is no exception. The T2 has no plastic parts, and the razor is made from 100% recyclable materials. Additionally, Rockwell is leading an effort to ban disposable razors in Canada and the United States. You can read more about their efforts here.
