Perfecto Shaving Brush

With over 10,000 reviews on Amazon alone, the Perfecto shaving brush is one of the most popular options. And for a good reason: it’s affordable, effective, and easy to use.

But most importantly, it’s also many men’s first genuine shaving brush purchase. And that’s a big deal.

While the Perfecto might not be the fanciest or most expensive brush on the market, it’s a great entry-level option that will help you get a feel for using a brush and start reaping the benefits of wet shaving.

Today, we’ll be reviewing and rating the Perfecto shaving brush so you can see if it’s the right fit for you.

Fiber Type

While shaving brushes can be made from various fibers, including boar, badger, horse, and synthetic, the Perfecto brush is made from 100% badger hair.

You’ll often find many different sub-categories, within the badger hair category, including silver tip, best, super, and pure. For example, the Perfecto brush falls into the “pure” category, the lowest quality of badger hair.

But don’t let that fool you: while it might not be the highest quality badger hair, it’s still a great brush that will do the job just fine.

The Perfecto shaving brush can adequately load up your favorite shaving soap or cream and create a rich, creamy lather.

At first, the bristles will feel a bit spiky or prickly, but they will soften up after a few uses and feel much more comfortable on your face – expect the feeling of a deep exfoliation as you lather up.

Brush Shape

The bulb shape of the Perfecto shaving brush is designed to provide more control of the lathering and application process. We think the bulb shape is better suited for those just starting to use a brush as it offers more stability and is less likely to slip out of your hand.

This contrasts to a fan-shaped brush thatwith long hairs on the edges. This allows for more soap to be loaded onto the brush.

Knot

At about 7.5cm in diameter, the knot is densely packed with soft yet firm bristles. The result is a brush that quickly whips up a rich lather but doesn’t feel too abrasive on the skin.

Like any shaving brush, expect some shedding of the bristles – this is normal and will decrease over time as the brush breaks in.

Loft

The loft, or total length between the knot and tip, of the Perfecto shaving brush, is about 5cm or 2″. This is on the shorter side but still perfectly adequate for most users. This, paired with the brush shape, provides reasonable control for those just starting to use a brush.

Handle

The wooden handle of the Perfecto shaving brush is about 1.375″ in diameter. While on the small side compared to other shaving brushes we have reviewed, the size should work well for most men.

The handle is smooth and comfortable to hold and provides a good grip – even when your hands are wet. A small metal ring near the top of the handle provides additional stability and durability.

Performance

Whether using a traditional shaving soap or modern shaving cream, the Perfecto brush can load up a good amount of product and create a rich, creamy lather.

The biggest downside to note of this brush is that it can feel quite stiff when first using it. The bristles will soften up after a few uses but expect the feeling of a deep exfoliation or spikiness as you lather it up. This is to be expected with any shaving brush made of badger hair, but it is worth mentioning here as this grade of badger is of lower quality.

Once the brush is broken in, it will feel much more comfortable on your skin and provide a great shave.

The shorter handle will cause fatigue if you have to lather up for a long time, but most men won’t have this issue.

Other Perfecto Shaving Brush Models

Perfecto also offers a few other models of shaving brushes. While the grade of the badger bristle hair is the same, the handle material does vary.

Whether shopping directly from Perfecto or another retailer, you’ll find this shaving brush in a silver, white, wooden, or black handle. We recommend deciding based on personal preference as the performance will be the same regardless of the handle color.

Alternatives to the Perfecto Shaving Brush

Aside from the Perfecto shaving brush, there are plenty of other great options on the market.

We recommend checking out other entry-level brands including Echolly, Shaveway, and Viking Revolution. If you are looking for a more reputable brand, look at the badger hair shaving brushes from Omega, Proraso, and Parker.

We also review a few great synthetic shaving brushes that are worth considering if you are looking for an alternative to badger hair.

Overall

We think you’ll be happy with the Perfecto shaving brush if you go in with the right expectations. While the badger hair is of lower quality, it’s still soft enough to provide a good lather. The brush is also well made and should last for a year or two with proper care.
