Duke Cannon Beard Wash Review

Duke Cannon products are unapologetically American, and we abso-lut-ely f***ing love that about them.

While they are most well known for their Big Ass Brick of Soap, one product that recently caught our attention was their beard wash.

Aptly titled the ‘Best Damn Beard Wash,’ this product comes in a large 6oz bottle and is designed to cleanse your beard without stripping it of its natural oils.

Bold and catchy names aside, does this beard wash actually live up to the hype?

In short, yes.

Yes, it does.

The beard wash is well made with plenty of goodness that your glorious beard deserves, along with important oils and gentle cleansers that will leave the skin underneath your beard feeling fresh.

Of course, not every product is perfect. You’ll see why in just a minute.

Who is Duke Cannon?

If you haven’t heard of Duke Cannon before, don’t worry, we’ll get you up to speed.

Duke Cannon was founded in 2011 with headquarters in Minneapolis, MN. They make their products here in the states (at least the ones we’ve tried so far), and they also do good for the community.

In fact, with each product you buy from them, a portion of their proceeds go towards veteran causes, so you can feel good about supporting them.

Alright, let’s get down to it. Here’s what you can expect from the beard wash:

Size

At 6oz, this beard wash is significantly larger than the average 3-4oz bottle you’ll find from other brands. This is a good thing as it means you won’t run out as quickly, and it’s also a more economical option in the long run.

However, the downside is that if you like to jet across the country via air, the nice TSA agent will make you throw away this large bottle since it exceeds the 3.4oz limit for liquids.

Bummer.

A travel-friendly option would be nice, but it simply doesn’t exist.

Smell

This, perhaps, is the strongest selling point for just about any Duke Cannon product. Their products deliver reliably outstanding smells that just make you feel manly.

The Best Damn Beard Wash is no different. It has a blast of citrus that really invigorates and gets the blood flowing, making you feel wide awake and ready to tackle the day.

The smell is also not too overwhelming, a nice change from some of the other products on the market that leave you smelling like you work at a motor oil factory.

Of course, if citrus isn’t your thing and you want to go the more traditional woodsy route, then check out their Buffalo Trace (yes, you read that right) beard wash. It delivers a woody, bourbon-y smell that is just as intoxicating.

Ingredients

Scent and size aside, what good is a beard wash if you are just slopping chemicals all over your face that’ll leave you with more problems than you started with?

This is where some purists will dock Duke Cannon some major points. There are some synthetic ingredients in this beard wash that are less than desirable.

But before you write them off as the enemy, it’s important to understand that not all synthetics are created equal. In fact, some of them are actually quite beneficial for your skin and beard.

Aside from some of the synthetic compounds, you can find a few diamonds in the rough, so to speak. In the ingredient list, you spot soybean oil, glycerin, and rice bran wax, to name a few.

Lastly, the formula is paraben-free and SLS-free.

Performance

The ultimate question: does this beard wash actually clean your beard?

The answer is a resounding yes. It’s designed to cleanse your beard without stripping it of its natural oils.

And it does a damn good job of it.

Your beard will feel clean but not dry or brittle. And your skin will feel great too.

For the lather performance, expect to see a nice sudsy foam that is easy to work into your beard. It doesn’t take a whole lot to get a nice amount of lather going, which is always a bonus.

Men with all skin types, including oily, dry, combination, and sensitive, found this beard wash non-irritating and gentle.

Price

Duke Cannon’s Best Damn Beard Wash will set you back $15, which is higher for a 6oz bottle. But like we said before, you get what you pay for.

If you love to treat yourself to uncompromising quality, then this is the beard wash for you.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a more budget-friendly option, there are plenty of other good choices out there – we highlight a few here in this post.

Just know that you probably won’t find anything as luxurious as Duke Cannon.

It has a great smell, performs well, and supports a good cause. In addition, your beard will feel clean and soft without being stripped of its natural oils.
