Dr. Bronner’s Hemp Peppermint Pure-Castile Bar Soap Review

Wildy popular and well-performing, we will give you a detailed look at Dr. Bronner’s All-One Hemp Peppermint Pure-Castile Bar Soap.

In this review, we will look at the packaging, size, and performance of the soap, so you can determine whether or not it’s worth working into your grooming routine.

Let’s begin.

Quick Note: We paid for this soap out of pocket; it was not complimentary.  We’ll be straight with you on where this soap performs well and where it falls short.

Packaging

Like any bar of soap, the packaging is simple.  Individually wrapped in paper, here’s a look at all the sides:

Here are a few important takeaways from the label:

Ingredients

As you can see, the ingredient list is simple.  The EWG Skin Deep database gives this soap an impressively low hazard rating of 1 out of 10 (source).  The soap bar contains many moisture-rich oils, including coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, hemp oil, and jojoba oil.

However, if you have naturally oily skin, you may want to avoid this soap. This is because the leading ingredient, coconut oil, is severely comedogenic, with a rating of 4 out of 5 on the comedogenic scale.  A high comedogenic rating simply means that the ingredient will be more likely to clog your pores.

Now, if oily skin isn’t a problem for you, expect your skin to feel noticeably smoother and well-nourished with the continued use of this soap bar.

Where its made

Dr. Bronner’s makes their products in Vista, California, halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Size

At 5oz. it is slightly larger than your typical bar of soap.

Here’s how Dr. Bronner’s soap looks when compared to a Tom’s of Maine bar of soap:

Additionally, here’s how it looks when held in hand:

Whether you like to use the bar of soap directly against your skin, or you like to get a lather going with a washcloth, the size can accommodate any preference.

Performance

Packaging and certifications aside, what anyone cares about the most will be the performance.  Does the soap get you clean?

Here are the results:

Handling

As expected, when using Dr. Bronner’s soap bar, it was easy to handle.  Whether washing the large areas of the body or the tight crevices, the size didn’t get in the way like the Duke Cannon Big Ass Brick of Soap we recently reviewed.

We don’t think you’ll be disappointed here.

Lather

For a natural soap, Dr. Bronner’s develops into a nice and foamy lather.  You get that nice visual and tactile feedback to know that the soap is hard at work lifting any dirt, grime, oils, and other general pollutants.

To give you a better idea of the lathering performance, here’s a closer look at how it develops:

Slickness and Finish

Thanks to the heavy reliance on several oils, the soap feels quite comfortable against the skin. In addition, the soap bar contains no exfoliating grit either, making it ideal for daily use.

Depending on the hardness of your water, when rinsing, you may notice a slightly tacky or sticky texture to your skin.

Cleanliness

We found the soap to be suitable for getting clean.  Whether body odor, dirt, etc. all of it was removed after a single-use.

Scent

While subjective, we loved the fragrance that develops in this soap.  The peppermint oil (Mentha piperita on the ingredient label) creates a refreshing smell that awakens the senses, which we found pretty pleasant when showering after a workout.

Of course, if peppermint isn’t for you, Dr. Bronner’s does make their Pure-Castile bar soap in a few other scents, including unscented, lavender, almond, citrus, and more.

Value

For a natural soap, Dr. Bronner’s is exceptionally affordable. So if you are looking for a budget-friendly soap, it’s one of the best soaps that we recently reviewed.
