If you ask any beardsman what the classic beard oil scent is 9 times out of 10 they are going to say something that channels their inner lumberjack and is earthy and just generally woodsy in scent.
Of all of the beard oils on the market, many of them miss the mark of delivering a product that meets that classic need – that is until they try Wisdom by CanYouHandlebar.
To understand this beard oil, or any beard oil for that matter, its always critical to closely examine the ingredients within the product itself.
This beard oil contains the following ingredients:
- Olive oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Vitamin E oil
- Apricot oil
- Jojoba oil
- Argan oil
- Essential oils for wood smell (likely cedar)
There are a few distinct ingredients above that we want to call out.
First off this beard oil contains jojoba oil, which we touched on in some of of our other beard oil reviews is an oil that provides a terrific amount of nourishment and moisture to both your skin and beard when applied.
Jojoba oil acts as a terrific oil to supplement the sebum oil that is naturally produced by your sebaceous glands that we talked extensively about in a recent post.
When applied to your face regularly, jojoba oil will completely rid your beard of beardruff along with making your beard feel completely smooth and ultimately less susceptible to split ends.
But the benefits don’t end there with jojoba oil, if you are experiencing split ends after excessive brushing or combing of your beard, jojoba will help to soften it up in order to prevent such irreversible damage that is only curable through proper trimming with shears.
Jojoba oil aside, the one ingredient that really stands out about this beard oil when compared to others is the inclusion of Vitamin E oil. Vitamin E oil naturally nourishes your skin while also being an antioxidant.
In addition Vitamin E helps block free radical damage that can cause pre-mature aging. Secondly Vitamin E oils helps to also ward off brown spots, repair cuticle damage, and generally makes the skin beneath your beard (and on your hands during application) a whole lot smoother.
When used in combination with other key carrier oils like olive, grapeseed, and jojoba among others.
Regarding the scent of this beard oil, Wisdom delivers a well balanced smell that is earthy with likely the use of cedar in the mixture. If its your first ever time trying out beard oil, most men might be thrown off by such a bold scent initially. However, what’s great about this beard oil by CanYouHandlebar is that it tends to dissipate an hour or so after use. Therefore making it a friendly beard oil for beginners alike. To note though, if you prefer to have absolutely no scent in your beard oil, then we would recommend checking out a fragrance free beard oil instead.
When it comes to the bottle and packaging for this beard oil, its largely a mixed bag. We absolutely love the card board container that the oil comes in, as its just simply a clean presentation, especially when others may come in a burlap sack that just looks a bit too sloppy and haphazard.
However with such a great attention to detail on the packaging, the actual bottle of beard oil falls just a bit short when compared to others on the market.
What we wish was on this bottle of beard oil was either a dropper head or a restrictor valve, this beard oil bottle simply doesn’t contain either therefore making daily application a bit cumbersome.
Therefore to apply this beard oil you either have to seal the top with your hand and then tip it over to get about a dime sized amount or tip over the bottle and slowly pour a bit into the palm of your hand. Either application will lead to mixed results every time due to the lack of any sort of measuring device.
Like the top lineup of beard oils on the market today, this beard oil does come in a amber colored bottle to block out UV rays. This bottle style will help ensure that the oils within the bottle keep their structural integrity for several months.
Lastly regarding the price of this beard oil, at the current market this beard oil is just a bit more expensive than the market averages. When we plotted this beard oil compared with others in our graph of 80 beard oils compared, you can see its near the center of the market average (plots $20 vs 4.7 rating on Amazon).
