Rewind a few years or perhaps even a decade, and being bald was probably not in your playbook – and that’s completely ok!
It wasn’t for me either.
But here’s the deal:
While yes, you can simply just take a razor to your head and call it a day, there are a few things you should be doing to look even better both today and 20 years from now.
A Healthy Body Completes the Look
Bald men are sexy.
The biggest reason why many are attracted to bald men is that they are more dominant, stronger, and confident (source, source).
Just look at pop culture, and you will see bald men gracing the covers of magazines that demonstrate these traits, such as Vin Diesel, Bruce Willis, Jeff Bezos, Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart, Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), etc.
Sure, having a few million dollars is nice – but that’s beside the point.
Losing a bit of weight or toning your body through some resistance training can make a world of difference allowing you to look even better when bald. As an added benefit, you will also feel a world better too. It truly is a win-win that will pay dividends in your life.
Facial Hair Helps to Accessorize Your Face
Men who shave their head and face understandably feel that they look like an egg – that’s fine; I feel that way too!
There’s just too much skin above the shoulders and nothing to break it up.
However, if you are bald, the chances are that you are likely able to grow a beard. If so, strongly consider letting your facial hair grow.
A beard will help to balance out your overall appearance.
Now I am not saying you need to grow a long beard or something that garners 100,000 likes on Instagram; even having a little bit of stubble can add a whole other dimension to your look.
However, don’t just grow a beard and let it be. A light application of beard oil, or face cream if you are in the light stubble phase, can help to soften and moisturize your facial hair.
If you are on a shoestring budget, go with a beard balm or just simply jojoba oil. They are cheaper and achieve nearly identical results.
Keep Your Head Kempt – You Look Younger And Better
One of the biggest problems I have with my hairline is that when I don’t shave my head for a few days, I have the SAME EXACT pattern as my grandpa – minus about 50 years.
It sucks; I instantly look way older than I am.
So, if you went all-in on going bald, make sure that you keep it shaved regularly.
Since razors can be pretty costly, consider buying in bulk; the price per blade is significantly lower.
Just make sure that you are changing out your razor blade regularly.
Over-Shaving Can Lead to Bald Dandruff (Dry Skin)
Having dry skin flaking from your scalp while bald isn’t fun. The reason that the skin is flaking is due to over-shaving.
Shaving puts a lot of stress on your skin, especially if you use a cartridge razor with several blades. And if you make several passes, that stress is even more pronounced.
To prevent dryness, you must moisturize your head daily. You don’t need a pricey bald-specific moisturizer here. A simple face cream or aftershave balm works well.
Pro Tip: If you don’t want to have a shiny head at all, make sure that you pick up an oil-free moisturizer.
Don’t Forget – The Sun Shines Year Round
Alright, the last note I want to touch on is sun exposure to the scalp.
If you are going bald, you need to make sure that you lather on some SPF protection daily.
While that might be tough for some men to get into the habit, attempting to do this regularly will be better than nothing.
To help, get a few small sunscreen bottles and place them next to your car keys, in your car, messenger bag, workout clothes, etc.
You should try and apply sunscreen 365 days a year. Just because it’s cooler outside doesn’t mean that the sun isn’t in the sky.
If you skip applying sunscreen, you can expect sun damage in a few years regardless of how old you are. This means both sunspots and freckles on the top of your head.
Overexposure may result in severe skin aliments such as melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, etc. later in your life.
Lastly, consider sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15. This will be strong enough to block out most of the harmful rays from your skin.
Confidence Is The Biggest Key To Looking Good Bald
When you feel great about yourself, it shows.
Carry yourself well.
Embrace who you are.
Become a people magnet by being engaged in the conversation, and the rest will follow.
Most importantly, continue being awesome!
